Custom software

Software built around how you actually work.

Customer portals, internal tools, AI phone answering, and bespoke web apps. For businesses the off-the-shelf tools never quite fitted.

We work with you from first call to launch. Founder-led, with a named person on your account throughout, and the same people who scope the work deliver it.

Verqan developer platform

Is this you?

Most businesses should use an off-the-shelf tool. Fresha, Square, Xero and the rest are good, cheap, and someone else maintains them. If one of them fits your process, use it, and we'll tell you so on the call.

This page is for the businesses that already tried. You bent the workflow to fit the software, you're running three tools plus a spreadsheet to cover the gap, or the thing that makes your business yours is the one thing the tool can't express. That's the point where custom software starts paying for itself.

What we build

Starting prices. Your fixed price is agreed in writing after the strategy call, before any work starts.

AI Receptionist

£299 setup

For businesses losing bookings to missed calls, where the phone rings while everyone is already busy with a customer.

  • AI phone answering trained on your business
  • Booking straight into your existing calendar
  • SMS follow-up and written call summaries
  • Setup, testing, and handover

Typical timeline: 1-2 weeks

One-off setup fee. The ongoing service runs as a monthly add-on to a managed plan (see /pricing/managed). Custom phone-system or CRM integrations are quoted as a bespoke build.

Internal tools and ops dashboards

Priced per engagement after a strategy call

For teams running the business on a shared spreadsheet nobody wants to touch, or a whiteboard that only makes sense to one person.

  • A dashboard built around your actual workflow
  • Role-based access for your team
  • Data import from your existing spreadsheets
  • Reporting views that update themselves

Typical timeline: 4-6 weeks

30% on signature, 30% at production start, 40% before launch and handover.

Customer portals

Priced per engagement after a strategy call

For service businesses answering the same 'what's happening with my order' message all week.

  • Secure customer login and dashboard
  • Document and file sharing
  • Order or case status tracking
  • Notifications when something changes

Typical timeline: 6-10 weeks

30% on signature, 30% at production start, 40% before launch and handover.

Bespoke web apps

Priced per engagement after a strategy call

For businesses with a specific process no off-the-shelf tool handles, including booking and scheduling that the standard platforms can't express.

  • A free strategy call to map the problem properly
  • A written fixed-price quote before any work starts
  • Staged delivery, so you see progress every two weeks
  • You own the code and the data, with no lock-in

Typical timeline: 8-16 weeks

Scope and price are fixed in writing after the strategy call. 30% on signature, 30% at production start, 40% before launch and handover.

How a software project runs

  1. 1

    Strategy call, free

We map the actual process: who touches what, where it breaks, and what you've already tried. If an off-the-shelf tool solves it, we say so and you've lost an hour rather than five figures.

  2. 2

    Written fixed-price quote

Scope, price, and timeline in writing before anything is built. Changes are quoted as changes, so the number you agree is the number you pay.

  3. 3

    Staged build

You see working software every couple of weeks and use it before it's finished. Problems surface while they're still cheap to fix.

  4. 4

    Handover, and you own it

The code and the data are yours, with no lock-in. Hosting, monitoring, and ongoing changes are available through our managed plans if you'd rather we kept running it.

Software we've shipped

The client portal every Doman Digital project runs through is our own build: briefs, previews, comments, payments, and the files a client gets at the end. Beyond that, BeautyOps, Verqan, and Sensphere's clinical workflows are all shipped software rather than marketing sites.

Common questions

Why build custom when off-the-shelf tools exist?
Usually you should, and we'll tell you when. Custom software earns its price when the tool forces you to work in a way that costs you money: staff double-entering data, a process the tool can't express, or three subscriptions covering one job badly.
Why does this cost more than a website?
A website presents information. Software holds your data, runs your process, handles logins and payments, and has to keep working when someone does something unexpected. It's more to build and far more to get right.
Can you build a booking system?
Yes, as a bespoke build. We don't sell booking as a cheap standalone product, because Fresha, Square, and Treatwell do the standard version free and do it well. We build booking from scratch when your scheduling genuinely doesn't fit those, and it's quoted as a bespoke web app.
What if the price comes back higher than I expected?
Then you walk away having paid nothing. The strategy call and the quote are free. We'd rather lose the project at quote stage than halfway through a build.
Do I own it?
Yes. The code and the data are yours on handover, free of lock-in and of any licence to keep paying. If you want us to keep hosting and improving it, that's a managed plan you can leave.
How long does it take?
Four to six weeks for an internal tool, six to ten for a customer portal, and eight to sixteen for a bespoke app. The strategy call gives you a real date rather than a range.

Tell us what it has to do.

A bespoke system is scoped on a call: what it replaces, who uses it, and what it has to connect to. You leave with a view on whether it is worth building.
